In Switzerland, one man in particular is making headlines right now: Arthur Cabral. The FC Basel striker had a picture-perfect start to the season with 18 scorerpoints. Will the Brazilian take the next step this summer?
Twelve goals and six assists in eight appearances. That makes one goal every 35 minutes of play - these are the figures of an absolute top striker. In Arthur Cabral's case, the whole thing takes place on a somewhat smaller stage, namely in Switzerland with FC Basel. The question is: for how much longer? Because the Brazilian is recommending himself for higher tasks with every assignment.
Last night, the 23-year-old scored a hat-trick in a 3:1 win over Hammarby IF. In the last league match against Servette Geneva, the striker even scored four goals. Rumours of the shooting star's departure are now growing louder and louder. Basel coach Patrick Rahmen gave the all-clear after the game: "At the moment there is no concrete enquiry."
But even he knows that things "change quickly in the transfer phase". Squad planner Philipp Kaufmann takes a similar view in an interview with 'transfermarkt.de': "Young strikers who score goals are always in demand. Therefore, it can't be ruled out that the player wants to take the next step if a good offer comes along."
Next step Bundesliga?
That next step could well be in the Bundesliga for the Brazilian. Rumours recently circulated about a possible interest from Bayer Leverkusen. However, it has not yet become concrete. According to Kaufmann, the transfer fee for the right-footed player is between twelve and 16 million euros.
In any case, the name Arthur Cabral should not be unknown to those responsible for the Bundesliga clubs. The brawny attacking player knows how to assert himself in the penalty area, is in the right place for a tap-in and is also strong in the game with the ball. And when it's not easy to break down the opponent, Cabral can also shoot from the second row. Qualities that may soon be admired in the Bundesliga.
